The southern slopes of Alpe di Mommio, ancient name of the mountain group Scalocchio-Nuda-Belfiore, are severe and spectacular, and offer panoramas over Alpi Apuane and La Spezia Gulf, the rocky peaks of the powerful stratification called "macigno" sandstone, the pastures and the forests, the peat bogs with the shelters of shepherds, coalsmen, and partisans.
