Di onda in onda - Atelier of Water and Energy

www.diondainonda.com

The Atelier "Di onda in onda" (meaning "From Wave to Wave") is a project that finds its identity in the geographic and cultural context of the Appennino Reggiano, especially in Ligonchio, the highest Municipality of the Province of Reggio Emilia.
The Atelier in the relation with the geographical and cultural context in which is situated, gives expression of an atelier spread out in the territory, which is multi-faceted, differentiated and consisting of several experimentation places called "camps":

  • Base Camp, situated inside the ENEL hydroelectric power station of Ligonchio, is a place that allows to explore both physics phenomena, both physical and suggestive water properties, and also those of electric and magnetic energy;
  • Camp 1, inside the National Park headquarter, is a location where to welcome visitors and a place dedicated to researches and documentation, in which ideas, experiences and projects are made available for all visitors;
  • Camp 2, situated at Rimale, is a deepening path through an enchanting beech-trees wood where to understand the relation among the natural elements, as wind, water, sun, trees and the phenomena linked to them, searching for the "poetry of nature";
  • Camp 3, situated at Presa Alta, is a place where to meet the force, the beauty and the suggestiveness of the River Ozola.

This project offers an approach to science that invites children, students and adults to look at things in an unusual way, becoming curious and asking themselves the reason of what is apparently inexplicable, researching and reattempting, making hypothesis and theories, trying to verify them with experiments.
An atelier where to watch nature, explore and reflect on its potential. In this sense the peculiar characteristics of the Park, the value of its native species, its wild animals and its water streams might become meeting places and research fields strongly linked to Ligonchio hydroelectric power station system.

Periods
Visits and excursions are on reservation and on payment. Visit www.diondainonda.com or Atelier Facebook page to have a look at the free visits and events calendar.

Themes proposals

Water, as matter, lends itself for learning situations in order to explore, research and experiment its dynamics and its characteristics: fluidity, pressure, flow, movement and acoustics, which are all elements connected and interacting to build relationships between the micro-system and the macro-system.
Magnetic force has a fundamental role in the process that turns kinetic energy into electric energy. It involves our senses and our perception, both on a physics plane both on a perceptive plane, making the phenomena mysterious and exciting.
Electric energy is invisible and we feel its presence only through its effects. Children, students and adults can work together on a variety of phenomena originating from energy production.

Educational proposal

Schools
Schools can visit the Atelier on reservation and on payment. Teachers involvement is essential in every stage of the project: sharing of proposals and topics of interest based on school curriculum, students preparation for the visits, and attendance to Atelier activity and further developments at school. There is also the opportunity to combine the Atelier activities with a free guided visit to ENEL hydroelectric power station, an excursion inside the Park territory and activities at Camp 1.
Visits last at least 2 hours and are divided into three parts:

  • conversation in the large group with the atelieristas to find out the areas of research and share knowledge, hypothesis and theories
  • exploration in the small group in the learning environments of the Atelier
  • final assembly to share and exchange the different explorative experiences

Groups and families
Groups and families can visit the Atelier on reservation and on payment (at least 10 children per group), enriching their trip with the free guided visit to ENEL electric power station or excursion inside the Park territory.

Teachers
Teachers can experience the opportunities offered by the Atelier, in order to make these experiences a starting point for further school projects, or opportunities for further researches and in-depth studies at the Atelier.

Adults workshop
In-depth studies curriculum on the themes offered by the Atelier as an opportunity for the training through work groups, both at the Base Camp both in nature, in order to analyse a specific phenomena, record the research developed and share the experiences.
