A considerable section of upper Val Dolo was given by Gazzano to the Duke of Este in 1451 in exchange for tax privileges: for this reason, the residual mixed forest of sliver fir and beech tree was called "abetina ducale" or "abetina reale" (royal or ducal fir wood) for four centuries. The wood was exploited with the building of sawmills. After one century of private property, it was included 30 years ago into the regional estates, a real green lung of the National Park, rich in history and culture. You will explore the valley by following very busy trails and three mountain huts, up to the historical pastures facing Val d'Ozola, between Prado and Cusna, with some more adventurous alternative routes.
